You know what else? I wish they’d come up with some way to justify Pearl’s behavior in Say Uncle. I mean they went the trouble of explaining Mr. Gus’ omnipotent knowlege of magic, even if it all was just a big joke.

bogleech:

But she was completely in-character!

In fully canon episodes, the usually reserved Pearl is repeatedly baffled to the point of fear or outrage by “human things” that are just too illogical, chaotic, messy and silly for her to see any appeal in, even when it was her own Steven trying to entertain her.

Uncle Grandpa is about 20,000 times more bizarre and confusing than Steven’s pie jokes and Pearl’s reaction was both proportionate to that and fully in line with her previous behavior.

Especially considering that in canon, Gem magic is the only magic known to exist. In the crossover, they’re confronted with something actually far beyond their comprehension, as Uncle Grandpa can seemingly distort reality on the level of a demigod but is not of Gem origin.

I’m sorry to everyone that both my level of enjoyment and level of thoughtful analysis increases the more juvenile and trivial something is, i.e. my 5000 words about Invader Zim vs. Animaniacs the other day.
