Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return

Santa Fe, NM – April 2016

I can’t really begin to describe the experience I had at Meow Wolf, it felt like I was walking through a dream, the craziest dream I’ve ever had. It is something everyone must experience on their own, maybe my photos will entice you to venture to Santa Fe for your own trippy dream.

Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return is a unique art experience featuring a wild new form of non-linear storytelling which unfolds through exploration, discovery and 21st century interactivity.  The premise: Something has happened inside a mysterious Victorian house that has dissolved the nature of time and space. Venture through the house of The Selig Family, and discover secret passageways into fantastic dimensions!”

I’m gonna go in a bit of a tirade/rant/idek here since it’s late night and my mind is on full shitpost mode so
also sorry that im not putting this on a readmore i’m on mobile and idk how to html i’m gonna tag it as long post so people who blacklist that dont have to worry

I’m gonna say that if it wasn’t for yokai watch, I would probably be 88% tired of pokemon by today
not because it’s getting bad or anything, i still love it to bits but…I feel like it’s getting sort of samey for me? i mean i’ve been into it since the fucking game boy era and thats like years old now

the fact that pokemon has had like a huge monopoly on the ‘monster raising’ rpg genre for a long time here in the us that i basically have nothing else to play from that genre since all the other ones are either bland, rare as fuck, or never even localized anymore
and as they say, sometimes having too much of the same thing is bad for you

I know the biggest thing that’s probably the biggest reason why others arent as tired of it/ its starting to become stale for me is that im not into competetive battling at all, and that’s basically the driving force of Pokemon
It’s about collecting them all and being the best battler
and I’m basically not as into the competetive side, which probably has tons of variations and stuff that keeps it fresh but without that you basically have the same game every time, the only difference is the characters, the number of pokemon, and the number of moves they can learn, and maybe some special region-specific gimmicks. (which is probably why i like the spinoffs a little more)

yokai watch, while is still essentially in the same genre, focuses on different things about it, and basically has a different feel. And most of all, it’s not centered on becoming the strongest above everyone else, while it is something you can do, it’s not really the main goal.
It’s a breath of fresh air for someone like me who only really wants to take things easy and collect cute friends (by feeding them food and beating them up)
It’s a little more focused on the world and the people and monsters in it, like a traditional rpg, which hits all the right spots for someone like me (and is probably why a lot of people dislike it but that’s probably just me projecting my thoughts on how horrible super-competetive people are)
the story may be too simple but of course you would expect that of a series marketed for children, and that’s okay because you don’t always have to expect AAA writing all the time. It definitely hits some points that you wouldnt expect but that’s also a given too

There are a lot of things wrong with it, but there are a lot of things wrong with Pokemon as well. Neither are perfect and the only things that make or break it are usually subjective and depends on the kind of person you are. and that’s fine.

i kind of wish people werent so quick to try and beat YW down into the ground and want it to never be localized because I feel like we need more variety or else we end up with a stagnant pool, and while yes, pokemon is popular enough to keep going for a long while, soon there will probably be more people like me that will get tired of at least the main series since there’s no other game if that genre to spice things up ( dont even say ‘just play a different genre then!’, it’s not that simple)

makes me wish the other stuff like this in japan would also be localized because just these two arent enough either

like people are so afraid to try out different types of games from the same genre that the industry is afraid to bring things out because they’ll lose money because of the fact that people are afraid to try it and that’s the vicious cycle (there are also other things that contribute to that but i feel like this one is the most relevant)

oops i kinda typed my fingers off sorry i’m gonna stop here by saying I love both series too much that i kinda wish they were more like friendly rivals than what we have now

i will fucking defend both series to the death
