“Anime artists use many distinct visual styles.”
The person’s probably been overly exposed to the crappy dodge+burn sparkly desu shit that users in DeviantArt which may or may not include me usually barf up and forgot about the potential that the style can bring. It’s also insulting to cartoons, since Anime is generally cartoons made in Japan. It’s like saying “All cartoons made in Japan are unoriginal.” which sounds racist and bigoted, not to mention very wrong.
Sure, Anime does have some factors that make it look the same, but that’s the whole stigmata: Most people just assume that anime is just ‘Sparkly-eyes and Fanservice’. Sure, it’s true, as a lot of anime ((and in turn, anime STYLES)) is pretty much that; but you can’t just say that the anime style as a whole is shit.
Anime, like any other style, CAN be varied (as shown by examples above). BUT, I won’t say that it’s better than any other style. It’s just the fact that A LOT, and I mean a lot, of people starting out on art only use this style and this style alone, which isn’t good. This makes the negative aspects of the style stick out more, as well as makes it so overused and uninteresting to those who have to see the ‘rubbage’ that they forget to look for the ‘gold’. Not to mention the hate towards it: as people (especially in DeviantArt) seem to prefer it more than any other style, that causes very good artists who do other styles like realism and such to be overshadowed and ignored.
TL;DR: Don’t say anime art style as a whole is shit. It’s only shit because there’s so much crappy artists that use only this style that it makes it look so bad.
