I hurts the artist more than you think.
oh my fucking god YES…
this ticks me off to no end you don’t even know.
What’s worse is that I’ve seen people using arguments such as “well if they didn’t want their art edited/stolen, they shouldn’t have put it on the internet.” So, what, does this mean we can’t show our art anywhere? True, we are responsible for our art, but it doesn’t mean that you can use that as an excuse to defend your art-editing “skills.”
We put up our art so that we can show off our hard work and talents to our friends and other folk, not so that some guy can plagiarize our works by putting them through shitty photoshop filters and claim said edited work as their own.
For the record, that is art theft, and there is no one to blame but yourself for doing it. Now, if you had, say, gotten permission from the artist to do so, that’s a completely different story. Is there line art that the artist says you are free to color and edit? Good! You’re free to do that! Did the artist say it’s just line art for an upcoming picture? Keep your hands to yourself.
Unless the artist directly states that YOU ARE FREE TO EDIT SOMETHING, no one is at fault but you if you take an image and edit it, and you get called out on it.
Again, TAKING SOMEONE’S ART WITHOUT THEIR DIRECT PERMISSION AND EDITING IT IS ART THEFT. And art theft is bad.
Very, very bad.
